Located in the Southwest corner of Colorado (only about 25 miles from the Four Corners), Cortez is placed between glorious deserts and majestic mountains.
Cortez serves as your base for visiting the incomparable cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde National Park and its neighbor, the Ute Tribal Park. Here, in the archaeological heartland of the United States, vast cultural resources and outdoor recreation opportunities await your discovery: Mesa Verde, Hovenweep, Canyon of the Ancients, Crow Canyon, the Anasazi Heritage Center to name a few. Within a few minutes drive, you can be hiking or fishing or enjoying incredible fall colors in the nearby mountains.
The Cortez Area Chamber of Commerce was established in 1938. It has been and continues to be a strong leader in the development of the community. Members include not only businesses, but also nonprofit organizations, governmental entities, and individuals who want to participate in forging a better future for all.

Come experience a trip back into time and witness a special Native American interpretation of the culturally diverse homelands of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe. Monday, May 28th through Thursday, May 31st 2012. Ride horses down Mancos Canyon to a campsite just below Two-Story House. Follow your Indian guide to the cliff dwellings as he tells about the history and culture of the ancient inhabitants.
